1) You went to college in lower Manhattan and then got a job in Cincinnati. What are the top three things you miss most about New York? Is there anything about Cincinnati you actually like better (cost of living does not count)?

There are a billion things I miss about NYC, but these would be my top three:

1. Endless possibilities of things to do
2. The subway/not needing to drive anywhere
3. My friends from college 🙁
4. The pizza (sorry I needed 4)

I do love the hometown feel of Cincinnati and the pride people have to be from here. It’s actually pretty refreshing.

2) Another question about New York: People have strong and varied reactions to this city. You have to work a lot harder in certain ways to live there, especially when you’re on a college budget. What was it about New York that attracted you so much that you were willing to make those sacrifices?

I’m from a one traffic light beach town, with a tiny population. Everyone knows everything about you. This probably sounds pretty cheesy, but you can be anyone you want when you live in NYC. You can wear what you want, have crazy hair, have weird interests and hobbies, and no one really asks any questions. You don’t have Dan Roziers calling you “New York” just because you got bangs.

3) If you had unlimited resources for the next two years, what would you do? (After two years, you go back to your life as is now.)

I would live abroad in Europe, preferably southern Spain or Italy. I would also pay off my student loans. Sigh.

4) If you suddenly had incredible musical abilities, what artist(s) would you sound like?

Hmmmm I actually do have some musical abilities. I’m pretty damn good at the clarinet, but I’m not saying I would sound like Kenny G.

I really wish I could sing better. So in my weird dream world, I’d love to be some combination of Rita Marley and maybe Lana del Rey. They’re both kind of badasses, with low enough voices for me to (maybe) fit the part.

5) Name one completely useless thing you’re really good at.

Refer to question 4.

6) Any random phobias? Now or when you were a kid? (Say spiders and I’ll break something.)

Not sure this is technically a phobia, but when I was a kid I was SO awkwardly shy. My parents would take me to the local video rental store and the owners would always tell me I could take home any movie I wanted if I just said “hi” to them. I wouldn’t. I guess I was afraid of people.

As a side note, I have a giant wolf spider residing right outside my backdoor right now, and it haunts my dreams. This is an actual picture of it:

7) Story time. You’ve got a few siblings and it sounds like you’re all very close. Tell us a story about you guys when you were kids.

Oh lord, there are so many and most of which I probably shouldn’t publish. The tricky thing is, we weren’t all kids at the same time. My brother is 16 years older than my younger sister (yes—same parents).

Let’s just say each relationship with my siblings is pretty unique. My brother and I are famous for having heated dance offs. My older sister and I are famous for our constant shenanigans; and my little sister and I are famous for fighting with each other constantly.

So that’s not really a story. Here are some quick fun facts about the Heid kids growing up:

· My little sister was a devil child and chased me with a steak knife once (okay, twice).
· My brother just wanted to live in the basement with his guitar and amp and pretend like my parents didn’t have a 4th child when he was 16.
· My older sister had such a high-pitched voice when she was little, my Mom used to “joke” about wanting to give her cigarettes to make her voice raspy.
· I’m my mom’s favorite. You can ask her. You can even ask my siblings.

8) What’s the last random internet…thing…you saw that made you laugh out loud to yourself?

I laugh out loud to myself a lot. Not in a JP way, but it’s still embarrassing. I never get sick of Doonese played by Kristen Wiig on SNL. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please quickly find out. I actually LOL’d when I did a Google image search just for the sake of this spotlight. And I guess this isn’t really an Internet thing, but you can watch it on the Internet, so I’m counting it.
