Tell us a memorable story of yourself when you were a kid. It can be funny, surprising, warm and fuzzy, whatever. Just make it a good one.
I was a pretty adventurous kid growing up, some would say reckless, (ahem Mom). In about a four-year span I, got staples on my forehead, stitches on my eyebrow, burned my entire hand on a grilled cheese maker and pulled my arm out of its socket. And these are just the injuries that were bad enough to make a trip to the hospital.
Explain how growing up in a small town has shaped you so far.
It’s seems rather normal to me, but people are always shocked to hear I grew up in a small rural town of about 3000 people. Even at a young age I knew the small town life wasn’t for me; everything and everyone was the same. I knew I couldn’t live my best life this way so, I moved to Cincinnati because I did not see a cow or cornfield in sight. And the rest is history.
How did you get to Amsterdam? What was it like working there?
Oddly enough, I ended up living in Amsterdam through a part-time job I started in college. I worked as nanny for a family in Cincinnati and when I was graduating college they were moving to Amsterdam and I was asked to come along! It was a pretty incredible experience; I had never been to Europe and here I was moving there without a second thought! I lived for 14 months in the South region of Amsterdam right by the Museumplein, Vondelpark and the beautiful Rijksmuseum. Fun Fact: My only mode of transportation was a bike and a bakfiet (A bakfiet is the mini-van of bikes in Holland.)
Tell us about your top 3 places from your time in Europe. Why did you connect with these places more than others.
My four top places I traveled while living in Europe were Paris, Cinque Terre, London and Amsterdam.
Brownies, cookies, cake. Rank them and explain your reasoning.
Last, last and LAST! I really don’t like baked goods or chocolate BUT you can catch me eating candy or chips almost every day of the week! My top favorites this week are: Sour Starbursts, Swedish Fish and Cheese-It Grooves Hot and Spicy.
What are your top 2 pet peeves?
Know-it-alls and chewing loudly.
What is something you get unreasonably excited about?
Every single Bravo show that has ever been made! Quiz me, go ahead I dare you!
If you had to change your name after committing some unspeakable crime that may or may not have involved hijacking, public nudity and/or cruelty to puppies, what would it be?
So this is something I have thought about my entire life not loving my semi-bland, semi-mom like name. I mean, my full name is Amy Lynn Elking, how boring! My choices have changed throughout the years, but lately I’ve been thinking I could make an excellent Hailee.
If you had unlimited resources for the next two years, what would you do? (After two years, you go back to your life as is now.)
I would travel the entire world! Nothing in my life thus far has been more exhilarating then moving to Amsterdam and traveling around Europe. Traveling to different countries and exploring unique cultures would be my dream for the two years IF I had unlimited resources.
