Curiosity Day: Mammoth Cave

Intro to Caving Tour

Mammoth Cave – Kentucky

For a few years now I’ve wanted to make a trip to Mammoth Cave, the world’s longest cave system, and my Curiosity Day finally gave me an excuse. I did some research and found an Introduction to Caving Tour. The tour was 3.5 hours and we spent half of the trip crawling, stooping and climbing through a mile of the cave. At one point we all turned off our headlamps and sat silently to experience the darkness and silence of the cave, which was one of the strangest experiences of my life. It was a challenge, and I also experienced claustrophobia for the first time, which made it feel like even more of an accomplishment. I’m already looking forward to returning for the Wild Caves Tour, a 6-hour 5-mile intense caving tour.
